Kuldeep more lethal on dry wickets: Kohli

Port of Spain: Indian skipper Virat Kohli heaped praise on left-arm leg spinner Kuldeep Yadav for his three-wicket haul in the 105-run victory against the West Indies in the second One-day International (ODI) cricket match at Queen's Park Oval here. Kuldeep Yadav in his 3/50 on Sunday picked up West Indies opener Shai Hope (81) and middle order batsmen Evin Lewis (21) and Jason Holder (29). Carribbean opener Hope looked in good touch, scoring at a strike rate of 92.04 but failed to carry his team to victory as he was adjudged leg before wicket off Yadav's delivery. Middle-order batsmen Lewis and Holder fell prey to Yadav in similar fashion after being stumped by Indian wicketkeeper Mahendra Singh Dhoni. "When batsmen try to attack, he can slow his pace down, just beat the batsmen halfway into the pitch. So he (Kuldeep Yadav) is quite amazing with what he does with the ball. I've faced him in the IPL as well, he's not easy to get away -- especially when the wi...

In a rain curtailed match, India posted a mammoth score of 310 run in 43 overs. West Indies in reply were restricted for 205/6 as India won by a whooping margin. West Indies were never really in the chase as they lost two wickets upfront as the Indian bowlers tied them down with brilliant bowling. Shai Hope was the lone fighter for West Indies with a 81 as the rest neither showed any intent nor the application to chase down the total. Kuldeep bowling for the first time in the ODIs picked three and sucked away the momentum from West Indies as India had the last laugh. Earlier, India rode on a strong batting performance from the top-order to post 310/5. The match had to be reduced to 43 overs a side after a long spell of rain forced the start to be delayed. Kohli should be boss of India team: Thakur

Hamirpur (Himachal Pradesh): Asserting that the captain's role is more important than that of the coach, former Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCC) President Anurag Thakur has called for skipper Virat Kohli being allowed full control over the Indian team. The Indian team, especially skipper Virat Kohli, has been at the centre of a controversy after Anil Kumble resigned as coach following a humiliating 180-run loss to Pakistan in the Champions Trophy final on June 18. Kumble had hinted at differences with Kohli in his resignation letter to the BCCI. There have also been reports that several players were unhappy with Kumble's strict disciplinarian approach. Some players were also reportedly unhappy after Kumble handed a harsh dressing down to the team following the defeat in the Champions Trophy final. Following Kumble's departure, Vinod Rai, head of the Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators (CoA), and several former players have come out in suppor...

Team India has coped well so far post Kumble's exit: Bangar

Team India batting coach Sanjay Bangar has admitted that there is "definitely a bit of lacuna" in the team with Anil Kumble's departure as head coach. Kumble, India's most successful Test bowler, resigned from the post of Indian cricket team's head coach after the ICC Champions Trophy. Bangar, while speaking to reporters on Saturday ahead of India's second ODI against West Indies, however, said that the team was coping up really well and both the support staff and the players have shown a lot of professionalism in compartmentalising the issues. "We are professionals and such things are part and parcel of any organisation where changes happen. The support staff and the players have shown a lot of professionalism in compartmentalising the issues and so far we have coped up really well," said Bangar. "Everyone's contributed towards it and as I said earlier, when you part ways it's never easy. You need to accept that at times such thing...

Yuvraj's form a concern ahead of 2nd ODI

Port of Spain: India, who dominated with the bat in the rain-affected first One Day International (ODI) match, will look to carry forward their momentum when they take on the West Indies in the second match at the Queen's Park Oval here on Sunday. Put in to bat, India made a good start with openers Shikhar Dhawan and Ajinkya Rahane putting up a 132-run partnership. But their efforts went in vain as rain played spoilsport with the match being abandoned. With the sky likely to be overcast during Sunday's match also, both the teams will look to play more attacking cricket from the outset to offset the Duckworth/Lewis method of setting a target. In the last match, the visitors opted for the strategy of starting slow and keeping wickets in hand for the last. India only managed to score 199/3 in 40 overs before the skies opened up. Because of this, the hosts were given a revised target of 194 runs to chase in 26 overs -- a not impossible task. Apart from the openers, skipper Vi...

Unperturbed by the fall of her wicket, Raut continued the attack with new batswoman and skipper Mithali Raj (71), and forged a 78-run partnership in 16 overs. That moment ultimately proved to be one of the turning points of the game as Zaman -- who was on three at the time -- went on to score a clinical century which helped Pakistan put up a mammoth total of 338/4. The Pakistan pacers then produced a scorching display as India lost the match by 180 runs.
