My relationship with Dhoni is pretty chilled out: Smith

Australian skipper Steve Smith, who is playing alongside former Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni for Rising Pune Supergiant in the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), has asserted that they both share a pretty chilled out relationship. IPL 2017 | Schedule/Results | Points Table | Stats "It's pretty chilled out with him. He has been fantastic and has had a few valuable contributions with the bat and he is hitting the ball really well," Smith said in an interview with iplt20.com . The Australian skipper further stated that Dhoni has played a crucial role for the turnaround of their side's fortunes in the tournament where they have won four of their last five games to stay fourth on the table. "MS Dhoni has been fantastic as he knows the game incredibly well out here. As a wicket-keeper, it is nice to have someone out there who can look at the angles and get them right," he said. "He has done that well for us and I'm sure he ...

Clinical Hyderabad snap Kolkata's winning run

Hyderabad: David Warner smashed a marauding 126 runs off 59 deliveries as Sunrisers Hyderabad snapped Kolkata Knight Riders winning streak in the 37th match of the IPL in Hyderabad. Chasing 210 runs to win, Kolkata were restricted to 161/7 as Hyderabad registered a massive 48-run win. Robin Uthappa was the top scorer for Kolkata with a 28-ball 53 as the rest of the batsmen failed to apply themselves. Sunrisers removed Sunil Narine and Gautam Gambhir early before rain interrupted play. However, the resumption saw Hyderabad pressing forward for victory as Kolkata ran out of gas. While Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohammed Siraj and Siddharth Kaul picked two wickets each, Rashid Khan took one wicket. Earlier, the Hyderabad captain unleashed mayhem as he milked 10 fours and eight sixes at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. He also became the highest run-scorer of the tournament so far with a tally of 459 runs. Warner and Shikhar Dhawan forged a 139-run partnership for the opening wicket ...

Virat Kohli hails David Warner's whirlwind century

I don't watch IPL on TV: Pujara

He was the chief architect in India's consecutive series wins but Cheteshwar Pujara missed out on an IPL contract as he was overlooked by all the eight IPL franchises. However, Pujara, a Test match specialist and India's rock in the whites said that he barely watches the IPL on television and that he has no regrets. "It's either practice or fitness training almost the entire day and it can't be cricket 24 hours. The switch-off happens in the evenings, when I'm with family or friends. That's why I don't watch IPL on TV, not because I'm not part of it. I watch occasionally, mostly if someone else is watching," Pujara told the New Indian Express . Recounting his tremendous performance in the last 13 Test matches, Pujara admitted that he failed to convert the starts into bog knocks. "It's fantastic to have contributed to the team's success, but I thought I gave away my wicket too many times. There were starts that I couldn't con...

IPL: Kings XI bundle out Daredevils for 67

Mohali: Medium-pacer Sandeep Sharma picked up four wickets as Kings XI Punjab bundled out Delhi Daredevils for a mere 67 runs in their Indian Premier League (IPL) match here on Sunday. IPL 2017 | Schedule/Results | Points Table | Stats Sandeep, who returned to the playing XI after missing the last match, made an excellent comeback, returning figures of 4/20 in four excellent overs. The right-armer produced superb swing and movement off the pitch to trouble the off-colour Delhi batting line-up to no end. The 23-year-old clinched three wickets in his first three overs to put the hosts in the driving seat. This is the second lowest total in this year's IPL after Royal Challengers Bangalore were dismissed for 49 during their 82-run loss to Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens last week. Brief Scores: Delhi Daredevils: 67 in 17.1 overs (Corey Anderson 18; Sandeep Sharma 4/20) vs Kings XI Punjab. Stay updated on the go with Sify Live Scores App. Click here to download it fo...

'ICC's USD 400 million offer far less than what India deserves'

BCCI's acting secretary Amitabh Choudhary has said that the USD 400 million offer presented by the International Cricket Council (ICC) before India is "far less than what the country deserves", seeing BCCI's contribution to global cricket revenues. "Because it is far less than what India deserves fairly," ESPNcricinfo quoted Choudhary as saying to a leading daily when asked why he did not agree to the settlement deal. The BCCI secretary contended that the Indian market contributed 70 percent of the global cricket revenue and, therefore, it was natural for India to get the lion's share. "Why do you forget that a disproportionate share of revenues to cricket comes from India? It's very easy and misleading to say that India is getting a disproportionate share," he said. "The facts are that over 70 per cent of cricket's revenue world over comes from the Indian market. That [the $293 million offered by the ICC] is not even close to...

Suarez double keeps Barca top after late Marcelo strike rescues Real

Barcelona: Barcelona came through a testing local derby at Espanyol, winning 3-0 to cling to their slender lead at the top of La Liga after rivals Real Madrid had set the challenge by beating Valencia 2-1 in the earlier kick-off. Barca triumphed thanks to two clinical finishes from Luis Suarez and a strike from Ivan Rakitic following a vintage slalom run by Lionel Messi. Suarez pounced on a disastrous backpass from Jose Manuel Jurado to break the deadlock in the 50th minute and Rakitic sealed the win in the 76th by side-footing home Messi's cutback after the Argentine had torn through the home defence. Suarez, who had failed to score in his previous five games in all competitions, took advantage of another calamitous error by the otherwise impressive Espanyol backline and rifled in Barca's third from close range in the 87th minute. The pressure was on Barca after Real Madrid had beaten Valencia 2-1 earlier in the day to provisionally lead the standings, and the champions go...

Bayern take fifth straight Bundesliga crown

Berlin: Bayern Munich celebrated their record-extending fifth consecutive Bundesliga title on Saturday after crushing VfL Wolfsburg 6-0 to open up an unassailable 10-point lead over second-placed RB Leipzig with three matches remaining. The Bavarians, who have now won 27 German championships, are on 73 points with Leipzig on 63 after they were held to a goalless draw by Ingolstadt earlier in the day. "It is amazing what this team did again this season in the Bundesliga," said retiring Bayern captain Philipp Lahm. "It is not a given that we will always march through the league like we did this season." Bundesliga leading scorer Robert Lewandowski netted twice to take his league goal tally to 28 and David Alaba, Thomas Mueller, Arjen Robben and Joshua Kimmich were also on target as Bayern rode roughshod over the hosts. The Bavarians had promised to bounce back following their mid-week German Cup semi-final defeat to Borussia Dortmund and last week's Champions ...

Win over Gujarat Lions one of my best games: Krunal Pandya

Mumbai Indians' all-rounder Krunal Pandya, who came out with a match-winning performance against Gujarat Lions in what was by far the most incredible game of IPL season 10, labeled the victory as one of his best wins across levels. IPL 2017 | Schedule/Results | Points Table | Stats Krunal played the role of an all-rounder to perfection as he bowled a wonderful spell conceding only 14 runs and took three wickets apart from contributing with a crucial 29 runs off 20 balls to help Mumbai clinch a Super Over win against the Suresh Raina led-side at the Saurashtra Cricket Stadium on Saturday. Jasprit Bumrah went on to bowl a brilliant Super Over, which consisted of a no ball and a wide, and defended 11 runs to hand over his side their seventh victory. Krunal, Hardik's brother, was adjudged Man of the Match. "This would be one of the best, amongst the best. I have played a lot of games like this as well, not at this level at domestic level as well but this was like the be...

Mladenovic halts Sharapova's controversial comeback run at Stuttgart

Russian tennis star Maria Sharapova's comeback on the tennis court after 15-months of doping ban was halted as she lost in the semi-finals of the Stuttgart Open on Saturday. Sharapova, a five-time Grand Slam winner, fell to one of her biggest critic Kristina Mladenovic 3-6, 7-5, 6-4. Mladenovic will now face Laura Siegemund in Sunday's final. "I'm not angry, I'd have loved to have used the opportunity when I was ahead in the second set, so I had a bit of a let-down which allowed her to get back in the match, gain confidence and play well," Sport24 quoted Sharapova as saying. The Russian, however, refused to blame a lack of fitness for her defeat and said she was happy with the way she has made a comeback to the tennis court. "If at the start of the week I'd said I'd be in this position, I'd be pretty happy with that," she said. "The way I played, I was really happy with that. You are never sure what level you are going to come...

Mumbai blow away Gujarat in Super Over

Rajkot: Jasprit Bumrah bowled a brilliant Super Over and helped Mumbai defend 12 runs in the one over shoot out at Rajkot. Chasing 154 runs to win, Mumbai were bowled out for 153 as the match was pushed to the Super Over. Mumbai batting in the Super Over garnered 11 runs with both Kieron Pollard and Jos Buttler garnering just 11 runs. Defending 12 runs, Bumrah started the over with a no-ball followed by a wide to give Brendon McCullum and Aaron Finch the license to go berserk. However, the following three deliveries were simply sensational from Bumrah as the Mumbai roared to seal a thrilling win. Mumbai faltered in the chase as they lost wickets in heap at the later stage of the game to be bundled out for 153. Parthiv Patel slammed a brilliant 70 but Gujarat came up with a brilliant second half show to tie the match. However, it was Bumrah who stopped Gujarat from marching ahead. Earlier, Gujarat recovered from a top-order batting collapse to post 153/9. At the top of the batti...

RCB not in race for IPL-10 play-offs, says Kohli

Pune: Conceding that the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) are virtually out of the race for the 2017 Indian Premier League (IPL) play-offs, courtesy another pathetic batting display, skipper Virat Kohli on Saturday said the team can only learn from such experiences. IPL 2017 | Schedule/Results | Points Table | Stats RCB's hopes of making it to the top four were dashed after they lost by 61 runs to Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS) at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium here. The 2017 edition of the IPL has been a disappointing one for the Bengaluru franchise, losing seven of their 10 outings so far. "I think it's for everyone to see we lost that game. It's hard for a captain to stand here and speak after a performance like this," Kohli said after his side was restricted to 96/9 in their response to Pune's 157/3. "But got to learn and move on from these kind of experiences. We lost the game rather than them winning it. We are pretty much not in...

Will be really interesting to see how Dhoni handles criticism: Ponting

Image Courtesy: BCCI Former Australian skipper Ricky Ponting has warned against writing off Mahendra Singh Dhoni as a dominant force in international cricket, adding that the former Indian captain has a significant role to play in the upcoming Champions Trophy, which is to be held in England and Wales from June 2. IPL 2017 | Schedule/Results | Points Table | Stats 35-year-old Dhoni came under-fire in the wake of his recent low performances for the Rising Pune Supergiant in the ongoing tenth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). After managing mere 61 runs in the first five matches of the tournament, the Indian batsman rebounded strongly and went on to smash a match-winning unbeaten knock of 61 off just 34 balls during his side's six-wicket win against Sunrisers Hyderabad. He, however, scored just 30 runs in the next two matches, thus giving his critics more reasons to point fingers towards him. Cautioning the Indian's critics to 'never write off a champion pl...

Looking to win as many games as we can: KKR's Jackson

Kolkata: Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) wicket-keeper Sheldon Jackson did not want to put a figure to the number of points needed to make the Indian Premier League (IPL) playoffs but said the more the team wins the better. IPL 2017 | Schedule/Results | Points Table | Stats KKR on Friday cantered to a seven-wicket win with 22 balls to spare against Delhi Daredevils, a match Jackson made his debut in. KKR are on top of the league table with 14 points from nine matches. Jackson remained not out on 12 along with skipper Gambhir who starred for the team with an unconquered 71. "Everyone plays the IPL to make the playoffs. There is no such number but as many as you win is better," Jackson told reporters after the game. On Gambhir, Jackson said: "It's the best thing that could have happened to me on debut. Batting with him was great. He is such a person who knows his games. He said when I went to him that 'I am there to back you and just play your game'. That...

Maxwell blames fielders, bowlers for loss to Hyderabad

Mohali: Kings XI Punjab's skipper Glen Maxwell blamed bowlers and fielders for their loss in an Indian Premier League (IPL) match against Sunrisers Hyderabad by 26 runs here on Friday. IPL 2017 | Schedule/Results | Points Table | Stats He also said the score posted by Hyderabad was chaseable but they got few soft dismissals and that resulted in their defeat. "It was chaseable. We were sloppy with the ball and in the field. We bowled either side of the wicket. There were a few soft dismissals in isolation. If you put together it looks bad," Maxwell said after the match here. The Punjab skipper, however, lauded Shaun Marsh's brilliant 84-run innings. Marsh faced 50 balls and slammed 14 boundaries and two sixes. "Marsh was absolute class, he was striking the ball beautifully. He has done it for Kings XI for 10 seasons. It is a quick turnaround for us. At least we will be at home and turn up next game," Maxwell said. Chasing 207/3 posted by Hyderabad, ...

Opportunity for Pune to rise on the points table: Gavaskar

With the Royal Challengers Challenge seemingly petering off the Rising Pune Supergiant has a great opportunity to rise on the points table after their big defeat to the Kolkata team. What has been surprising is the abject failure of the strong batting line-up of the Bangalore team on pitches where there has been help for the bowlers. For the second consecutive game that they played, they floundered when the ball started to do something and showed a weakness that had not been seen or noticed earlier. Now all teams that play against them in the remaining matches will try and prepare pitches where there is a bit of seam movement and bounce and hope to contain the destructive line-up. Of course plans in cricket don’t always work as the Pune team found out. They would have thought that the score they had on board was enough against the Kolkata team but the Knight Riders have been in such great form and have so much self-belief that no target is going to daunt them. Uthappa has once again...

Sunrisers flex batting muscle to tame Punjab

Mohali: Ashish Nehra and Siddharth Kaul shared six wickets among themselves as Sunrisers Hyderabad beat Kings XI Punjab by 26 runs in the 33rd match of the IPL at Mohali. Chasing 208 runs to win, Shaun Marsh smacked a brilliant 50-ball 84 but his efforts went in vain as Punjab were restricted to 181/9. Sunrisers started their second essay brilliantly as Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Ashish Nehra removed the Punjab openers. Kaul then dismissed Glenn Maxwell for a duck to leave Punjab in deep trouble. However, Shaun Marsh gave Punjab a glimpse of hope as the Australian smashed 14 boundaries and two sixes. Marsh along with Eoin Morgan kept Hyderabad at bay but the duo had to play out of their skins to help Punjab sail home. Rashid Khan broke the stand by removing Morgan and then Bhuvneshwar Kumar dismissed Marsh to turn the game firmly in Hyderabad's favour. Earlier, openers David Warner and Shikhar Dhawan helped Sunrisers post a challenging 207/3. Right from the start, Dhawan (77) and...

India to take call on Champions Trophy at May 7 BCCI meet

Kolkata: Board of Control for Cricket in India's (BCCI) acting Secretary Amitabh Choudhary on Friday hinted that the call on India's participation in the ICC Champions Trophy will be taken in the Special General Meeting (SGM) to be held on May 7 in New Delhi. India's participation in the Champions Trophy starting June 1 is in doubt following a landmark vote by the International Cricket Council (ICC) that went against the BCCI and means their share of the financial pot from global events will suffer a significant cut. The BCCI had already missed Tuesday's deadline to submit their squad for the eight-team 50-overs tournament and according to reports a boycott is being considered by factions within the embattled governing body. "The SGM will be held on May 7 in Delhi. The next course of action will be decided there," Choudhary told reporters on the sidelines of the Indian Premier League (IPL) game between Kolkata Knight Riders and Delhi Daredevils here. The ...

The missed catch of Uthappa cost us the match: Samson

Kolkata: Delhi Daredevils opener Sanju Samson on Friday lamented the dropped catch of Kolkata Knight Riders' (KKR) Robin Uthappa, saying the miss cost them the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2017 match. IPL 2017 | Schedule/Results | Points Table | Stats Uthappa smashed a 33-ball 59 as KKR won easily by seven wickets to stay at the top of the points table and inch closer to the playoffs. Delhi were condemned to their fourth defeat in as many games and are now staring down the barrel. Uthappa made the most of some comical fielding in the sixth over, when a leading edge off the in-form batsman's willow saw Samson and Amit Mishra converge in the region between short fine leg and square leg with none of them getting under the ball eventually. The Karnataka batsman was on nine at that time. "Catches do count. Catches win matches and there was a dropped chance and he (Uthappa) made use of it. I think that cost us the match," said Samson, whose 60 off 38 balls went in va...

Gambhir donates prize money to slain CRPF personnel's kin

Veteran Indian batsman Gautam Gambhir was on Friday declared man of the match for Kolkata Knight Riders versus Delhi Daredevils. IPL 2017 | Schedule/Results | Points Table | Stats Gambhir donated the prize money to the kin of security personnel who lost their lives in the Sukma Naxal attack. This comes after Gambhir pledged to bear the educational expenses of the children of the 25 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel, who were killed in an attack by the Maoists in Chhattisgarh's Sukma on Monday. The cricketer's media manager confirmed that the Gautam Gambhir Foundation will take care of the entire educational expenses of the children of the soldiers killed. The initial steps in this regard have reportedly already been taken. Backing the move, Union Minister of Urban Development and Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation M. Venkaiah Naidu earlier took to his Twitter account and complimented the Kolkata Knight Riders skipper for setting an example. "Compli...

After Whatmore, Uthappa on Kerala radar

Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala Cricket Association (KCA) which has thrown its net far and wide and successfully roped in World Cup winning coach Dav Whatmore, has begun to look for high profile cricketers to join the state squad. A Kerala cricket administrator who did not wish to be identified told IANS that one big name is cricketer Robin Uthappa. "His mother is a Keralite, while his father hails from Coorg and he plays for the Karnataka Ranji team and he speaks Malayalam fluently. The Kerala team badly seeks an opener and he has been performing very well in the ongoing IPL. Things are being talked out and if things churn out well, Uthappa will be opening for Kerala this season," the official said. Every state Ranji squad can include up to three players from outside the state and Kerala have the services of Iqbal Abdullah, Jalaj Saxena and Bhavin Thakkar. Of the three, the KCA wish to retain only one and hence is scouting for two -- of which Uthappa is one and another b...

Bhajji, Raina, Rana in Ponting's Best IPL XI of 2017

Gujarat Lions skipper Suresh Raina, Mumbai Indians spinner Harbhajan Singh and Sunrisers Hyderabad pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar have got a place in former Australian skipper Ricky Ponting's Best XI of IPL 2017. IPL 2017 | Schedule/Results | Points Table | Stats Raina has made 309 runs in the eight matches he has played so far at a strike rate of 141.74, Harbhajan has taken just four wickets in the seven matches but his economical bowling has been instrumental in his franchise's dream run this season. Bhuvneshwar, on the other hand, has been in terrific form this season as he has picked up 16 wickets in seven matches at an economy of just 6.28. In an interview with cricket.com.au , Ponting put together his Best XI from the tournament so far which includes four Indians, two Australians, two South Africans, an Englishman, a Kiwi and an Afghani in his side. The Australian cricket legend has named David Warner as the captain of his best IPL XI while England's Jos Buttler, who ...

IPL: RCB slump to worst run-rate after loss to Lions

Bengaluru: Gujarat Lions dominated with both bat and ball to thrash Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by seven wickets in their Indian Premier League (IPL) clash at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium here on Thursday evening. IPL 2017 | Schedule/Results | Points Table | Stats Chasing a modest target of 135 runs, Gujarat crossed the line in 13.5 overs. Aaron Finch and skipper Suresh Raina played a crucial role with 92-run stand. Finch produced a whirlwind innings of 72 runs, hitting five boundaries and six sixes during his 34-ball stay in the middle, while Raina remained unbeaten on 34, off 30 balls with four hits to the fence and a six. RCB has the worst Net Run Rate in this season of IPL (-1.401) #RCBvGL — Bharath Seervi (@SeerviBharath) April 27, 2017 This is the sixth defeat for RCB who are going through a poor run this season. They are now placed seventh in the eight-team table with a mere five points from nine matches with only two wins to their credit. They had suffered a h...

DD coach Dravid, Zaheer spend time inspecting Eden pitch

Kolkata: Delhi Daredevils are leaving no stone unturned in their bid to rein in the barrage of losses and start a winning spree -- and that was evident with the amount of time coach Rahul Dravid and captain Zaheer Khan on Thursday spent inspecting the Eden Gardens pitch where they take on Kolkata Knight Riders a day later. IPL 2017 | Schedule/Results | Points Table | Stats The pair strolled around the 22-yard strip for close to 45 minutes engaging in a long discussion. Delhi bank on their star-studded bowling arsenal comprising the likes of Pat Cummins, Kagiso Rabada, Chris Morris, Mohammed Shami and Zaheer. In the spin department there is Amit Mishra. Delhi have just won two games out of six and Zaheer made it clear ahead of their outing against in-form Kolkata Knight Riders that the next nine days where they play five matches will decide their fate. The Eden strip, since being relaid, has assisted the pacers with bounce and carry. On Thursday, a fair amount of grass was seen...

'Boycotting Champions Trophy could isolate India'

Senior BCCI functionary Rajeev Shukla on Thursday asserted that it would not be right for India to pull out of the upcoming Champions Trophy in its act of defiance over the ICC's revised financial model, saying such a move could see them isolated in world cricket. Champions Trophy 2017 - Schedule | Squads: England | Sri Lanka | Pakistan | New Zealand | South Africa | Bangladesh | Australia "Whatever has happened in Dubai is unfortunate. Whatever share we were demanding, we did not get that," Shukla told ANI . "I think a way should be found out so that we get the revenue and we don't have to boycott the Champions Trophy. It would be only our loss if we boycott the Champions Trophy. We should not be in haste to boycott the Champions Trophy. We should try to find out a way with the ICC so that we get our deserved revenue. We should be patient and should see that because of any step, we don't get isolated in world cricket," he added. The ICC appr...

Video: Gambhir, Manoj Tiwary's onfield spat during IPL game

Even as Kolkata Knight Riders captain Gautam Gambhir led his side to a comfortable victory over the Rising Pune Supergiant, he was seen engaging in a verbal spat with a particular opposition player. IPL 2017 | Schedule/Results | Points Table | Stats And the man in discussion here is none other than Manoj Tiwary. There seemed to be no love lost between the duo as they continued their little spat during the KKR chase. Gambhir, after sneaking a single and taking his stance at the non-striker's end was seen hurling angry words at his former KKR teammate. http://pic.twitter.com/uEUPtlUoDP — cricket (@cricketfreak19) April 26, 2017 The two have quite a history especially after their ugly spat during a Ranji Trophy game between Delhi and Bengal in 2015. It may be recalled that Tiwary, who had hit the winning runs in KKR's title triumph in 2012, was released by the franchise last year, and went unsold at the auction earlier this year. However, Tiwary later got a lifeline wh...

Pakistan call off Bangladesh tour scheduled for July

Pakistan have cancelled their scheduled tour to Bangladesh later this year with Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Shaharyar Khan stating that the decision was taken after mutual consent of both the cricket boards. Pakistan was scheduled to play two Tests, three ODIs and a T20I series on their tour to Bangladesh in July and August. "We had spoken about the possibility of hosting them [Bangladesh in Pakistan] this year," Khan was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo. "Pakistan have now toured Bangladesh twice without them reciprocating, and we feel we cannot tour Bangladesh for the third straight time. Therefore, we have decided to postpone the tour, and will explore another window in the next year or so," he added. Bangladesh last toured Pakistan in 2007-08. Since then, Pakistan have toured Bangladesh twice, in 2011-12 and 2015. The PCB had invited Bangladesh for a two-match T20I series this year, only for the BCB to rebuff the invitation. On their last visit to...

BCCI to receive USD 293 million under ICC's revised financial model

Under ICC's revised financial model, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will receive USD 293 million from the International Cricket Council global revenues for the 2015-23 rights cycle. Associate Members will receive funding of USD 280 million. This model was passed 13 votes to one. A revised constitution was also approved by 12 votes to two. This takes into account the Board's feedback following extensive discussion at the February meeting and further input from the working group. It will now be presented to the ICC Full Council in June for adoption. The constitution reflec...

Russian tennis star Maria Sharapova marked her competitive return from a 15-month doping suspension with a straight-sets victory over Italy's Roberta Vinci in the opening round of the Stuttgart Open last evening. The former World number one, who has been handed wildcard for the tournament, recovered from losing her first service game to register a 7-5, 6-3 win over Vinci in a thrilling first-round contest. With the win, Sharapova has now set up a second-round encounter against Russia's Ekaterina Makarova, who clinched a 6-2, 6-4 win over Polish star Agnieszka Radwanska. It was Sharapova's first match since her quarter-final defeat to world number one Serena Williams at the 2016 Australian Open, where she was tested positive for banned substance Meldonium. Meanwhile, the five-time Grand Slam champion has also been handed wild cards for Madrid (May 7-13) and Rome (May 15-21) tournaments. Her ultimate goal is to gain entry into the French Open, as she can earn a place i...

ICC board approve rollback of 2014 'Big Three' decision

The International Cricket Council's (ICC) board has voted to pass a new financial model to reverse a 2014 decision which effectively put India, England and Australia in control of the game's finances and administration. Under the new financial model and governance structure, the split of revenues from the ICC for the years 2016 to 2023 will be altered to address the imbalance currently favouring the three boards. The measure was passed by 13 votes to one, the governing body said in a statement on Thursday after its meetings in Dubai. The Indian cricket board, according to local media, was the only one to oppose the new financial model, which would see their revenue share cut by almost half from the 2014 model. A revised constitution, which will allow the ICC to include additional full members in the future, was also approved by 12 votes to two. The decisions would have to be ratified at the ICC's annual conference in June. Stay updated on the go with Sify Live Scores App...

BCCI delays Champions Trophy squad amid revenue talks

India failed to submit its squad for the upcoming Champions Trophy by the Tuesday midnight deadline and, as it tries to thrash out a better revenue deal with cricket's governing body, the world's richest board has not ruled out boycotting the tournament altogether. Champions Trophy 2017 - Schedule | Squads: England | Sri Lanka | Pakistan | New Zealand | South Africa | Bangladesh | Australia International Cricket Council (ICC) Chairman Shashank Manohar has been critical of the 'Big Three' model of 2014, which effectively put India, England and Australia in control of the game's finances and administration. At a meeting in February, the ICC agreed "in principle" to reverse the 2014 decision and proposed a governance structure including a new revenue distribution model, which seeks to address the current imbalance favouring the three. The Indian board (BCCI) unsurprisingly opposed the new proposal, which would see their revenue share decreased. In...

PCB to sue BCCI for dishonouring MoU on bilateral series

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) executive committee chairman Najam Sethi informed on Wednesday that they have decided to sue the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for failing to honour the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the two cricket boards in 2014. "PCB has told BCCI it is suing for compensation against BCCI's refusal to play bilateral series as per Agreement signed in 2014," Sethi tweeted. According to the 2014 agreement, India was scheduled to play six series against Pakistan, four of them were going to be Pakistan's home series. While the BCCI has repeatedly snubbed Pakistan's request for resumption of ties, the PCB wants the Indian cricket board to honour its commitment of six series between 2015-2023 under the MoU signed, which is subjected to clearance from the Government of India. Despite not playing a full-fledged bilateral series against Pakistan since the 2008 terror attacks in Mumbai, the arch-rivals have played each oth...

Uthappa, Gambhir help Kolkata Pole vault to top

Pune: Robin Uthappa and Gautam Gambhir hit fine half-centuries as Kolkata Knight Riders beat Rising Pune Supergiant by seven wickets in the 30th match of the IPL at Pune. Chasing 183 runs to win, Uthappa (87, 47b, 7*4, 6*6) and Gambhir (62, 46b, 6*4, 1*6) hammered a clueless Pune attack as Kolkata pole vaulted to the top of the table. Kolkata lost Sunil Narine early but Gambhir and Uthappa forged a brilliant 158-run stand for the second wicket to knock down Supergiant. Jaydev Unadkat was guilty of dropping Uthappa early in the innings and the Kolkata wicket-keeper batsman counted his luck to script a superb victory. While Uthappa took the aggressive route, Gambhir dropped anchor and kept milking the bowling. Steve Smith tried almost every option, but the duo of Gambhir and Uthappa were simply unstoppable. Kolkata lost both Gambhir and Uthappa at the fag end of the game but the duo had finished the job well before they walked back to the hut. Pune included Faf du Plessis in place ...
