Mushfiqur Rahim laughs at India's loss, gets trolled

Bangladesh wicket-keeper batsman Mushfiqur Rahim's untimely tweet to taunt the Indian cricket team obviously didn't go down well with the heartbroken fans. The former Bangladesh captain later tweeted an apology, but the damage seems to have been done. Sorry to all of you guys...as i am a big West Indies supporter but anyway sorry again for some harsh words...!!!! — Mushfiqur Rahim (@mushfiqur15) March 31, 2016 via Sify.com http://ift.tt/1RPKkKr

Simmons credits IPL experience for match-winning knock

Mumbai: On a high after a match-winning knock against India which steered West Indies to World T20 final, star batsman Lendl Simmons on Thursday said that the experience he gained from playing for Mumbai Indians in the IPL helped him play such an innings in such a crucial match. World T20 - Complete Coverage "I got the news after Afghanistan game. The chairman called and told if I was fit to go and play the match and said yes, I was and to play the match. I was about to get ready on Friday and come to Mumbai for the IPL. I saw an opportunity to get ready for IPL as well. This is my home ground, I read the conditions well and think I read it well. Yes IPL helped me very well," Simmons said at the post-match press conference here. Simmons was recalled to the side after Andre Fletcher was ruled out of the tournament after hamstring problem against Afghanistan. On Thursday, West Indies beat India by seven wickets at the Wankhede Stadium here. Batting first, India posted a co...

'Under Morgan, England has grown in strength'

England have stormed into the final of the ICC World Twenty20 in style. Under Eoin Morgan this team has grown in strength each game, learning from each setback and have developed a strong self-belief and desire to win big. Coming back from a mauling is never easy but that is exactly what England have done after they were struck by 'Gaylestorm'. They have recovered well and have held their nerve in close encounters which is what this format invariably provides. Their openers Jason Roy and Alex Hales are the ones who begin the charge that unsettles the opponents and then even as Joe Root and skipper Morgan conjure gaps where there didn't seem one and steal runs from fielders hands comes Jos Buttler to give the finishing thrust and the killer blow. In the bowling, Morgan has used his options smartly and alternated his spinners and seamers according to the batsman on strike. England's bowlers have been by far the best at bowling the under the bat ball in this tournament to ...

A bad toss to lose and dew hurt us: Dhoni

Mumbai: India skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni on Thursday attributed their shocking seven-wicket loss against West Indies to the dew factor saying that it made life difficult for spinners to grip the ball while defending which eventually made the difference between the two sides. World T20 - Complete Coverage Batting first, India posted a competitive total of 192/2 in 20 overs, thanks to Virat Kohli's 89. In reply, a brave Windies side chased down the total posting 196/3 in 19.4 overs, thanks to Lendl Simmons' 51-ball 83 and Johnson Charles' 36-ball 52. West Indies will now face England, who earlier beat New Zealand in the first semis on Wednesday, in the final at the Eden Gardens on April 3. "You know, 30 more would have been really nice. But you have to realise it was half an hour early start, a bad toss to lose, so when they started batting the first few overs were fine, but after that there was a considerable amount of dew which meant the spinner couldn't bo...

Watch: Dhoni slams Australian journalist

India lost to West Indies in the semi-final of the 2016 World Cup and as expected the media were once again up with the same question of retirement to India skipper MS Dhoni. This time it was the time for an Australian journalist to face the ire of Dhoni. Watch how Dhoni grilled the journalist when asked about retirement. Speaking on the loss Dhoni attributed their shocking seven-wicket loss against West Indies to the dew factor saying that it made life difficult for spinners to grip the ball while defending which eventually made the difference between the two sides. Batting first, India posted a competitive total of 192/2 in 20 overs, thanks to Virat Kohli's 89. Really disappointed with two no-balls: Dhoni

A distraught India captain MahendraSingh Dhoni blamed the two no-balls bowled to Lendl Simmons byRavichandran Ashwin and Hardik Pandya for team's shock ousterfrom the World T20. Ashwin's no-ball gave Man-of-the-Match Simmons 'life' at18 when Jasprit Bumrah had taken the catch while Pandyaoverstepped when the right-hander was on 50. Simmons went toscore an unbeaten 82 to win it for the Caribbeans. "It was a bad toss to lose. Then it was a 7 pm startwhich meant that second innings started half an hour early. Itwas not bad when we started bowling. The spinners did not havemuch on offer due to dew. We have a history of problems whenthe spinners bowl with wet ball. The only thing I am reallydisappointed are the two no-balls," Dhoni said at thepost-match presentation ceremony. The skipper said it had become imperative for him tofinish quota of his fast bowlers Ashish Nehra and JaspritBumrah much before the death as that was the only way to makea game out of it. ...

West Indies beat New Zealand to make Women's WT20 final

Mumbai: A spirited West Indian side produced an all-round performance to outclass New Zealand by six runs in the second semi-final at the Wankhede Stadium here on Thursday to enter the final of the women's World Twenty20 cricket tournament. World T20 - Complete Coverage Batting first, riding on Britney Cooper's quickfire 48-ball 61, the West Indies posted a competitive 143/6 in 20 overs. In reply, New Zealand were never in control of the game as they lost wickets at regular intervals and could manage only 137/8 in their 20 overs. Stafanie Taylor (3-26), Shaquana Quintyne (1-11), Afy Fletcher (1-20) and Shamilia Connell (1-22) were the pick of the bowlers for the West Indies. The West Indies women will now take on Australia eves (who earlier defeated England in the first semi-final on Wednesday) in the summit clash of the tournament at the Eden Gardens on April 3. Chasing a challenging target of 143, New Zealand got off to a disappointing start as West Indies pacer Shamil...

Watch: Virat Kohli twice lucky!

Virat Kohli got a double life while batting on 1 in the semi-final clash against West Indies at the Wankhede Stadium. First wicket-keeper Denesh Ramdin missed hitting the stumps after Kohli took off for a run and then Dwayne Bravo had an opportunity when he aimed at the stumps. Both easy chances and but both players missed by a whisker. How lucky do you have to be? #IndvsWI http://pic.twitter.com/e4LT7r0D7h — Sufi Labeouf (@KASHMNEXTDOOR) March 31, 2016 Hilarious. 'There's more to Gayle than just power'

After being below par, India finally played to their potential in their 'do or die' game against Australia, with one man putting in a genius performance. Simply put, Virat Kohli's knock at Mohali was the best limited overs innings played by an Indian. Thanks to him India are in the semis, a qualification everyone expected but no one would have thought would be so arduous. India clearly start as favourites especially because of how West Indies have looked in their last two games. They beat South Africa before going down to Afghanistan in Nagpur but what came through in that performance against South Africa was how vulnerable their batting can be. Even if it's about chasing a small score West Indies have this unique ability to self destruct. When people talk about Gayle, they talk about his power, but there is more to Gayle than just that. He also has a fine temperament which he showed in that run chase earlier in the Super 10 against England. The same cannot be sa...

'About time others take a cue from Kohli's approach'

Image Courtesy: BCCI India go in to the semi finals at probably their least favourite venue, the Wankhede Stadium. It was at this venue a few months back that the South Africans massacred their bowling to score 438 runs in a limited overs game. That said, the bowling is now way different with the inclusion of the wily experienced Ashish Nehra, Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya. Nehra and Bumrah not only get wickets at the beginning but bowl exceedingly well in the slog overs to put the brakes on the opposition scoring. Pandya has the happy knack of picking wickets even though he gives runs away in the final overs. More importantly he has the luck factor going for him which is so crucial. If a bowler picks wickets off full tosses then it's nothing but luck as was seen in the game against Bangladesh. Dhoni will not leave him out of the team for he knows that Pandya can belt the ball and with his fielding save the runs that he gives as a bowler. Yuvraj Singh's fitness will be a...

Waqar livid over PCB for 'leaking' confidential report

Waqar Younis has launched a blistering tirade on the Pakistan Cricket Board for 'leaking' and 'twisting' details of his confidential report on the national team's performance since he's over as the team's head coach. World T20 - Complete Coverage Earlier, the former pace spearhead had presented a strongly worded and detailed report to the PCB on Tuesday and later to the fact-finding committee formed to assess Pakistan's poor performance in the World Twenty20. However, the disclosure of his report attracted his ire, who questioned who was leaking information from the confidential reports. He insisted that he had given a fair assessment but added that certain parts of his report had been picked, moulded and leaked to the media in order to portray him as a villain, the Dawn reported. Waqar went on to say that there was more politics in Pakistan cricket than the parliament. According to reports, Waqar had accused former wicketkeeper and team manager Mo...

Our aggressive brand of cricket took us to WT20 final: Morgan

England captain Eoin Morgan todaysaid their belief in playing "aggressive brand of cricket" hasplayed a big role in the team's progress to the final of theICC World Twenty20. England tonight into the final of the ICC WorldTwenty20 with a comprehensive seven-wicket victory over NewZealand, riding on opener Jason Roy's blazing 78. After restricting New Zealand to 153 for eight with animpressive death bowling effort, it was then turn of right-handed Roy to pulverise a potent Black Caps attack intosubmission with a superlative 78 off 44 balls as the winnersfinished the match in only 17.1 overs. "We did really well to peg it back after the first six orseven overs. (New Zealand skipper) Kane (Williamson) playedreally well and his wicket was very important. The belief inour camp is a very aggressive brand of cricket and we haveconfidence at the moment. We are in a good position at themoment. (A final) is the kind of thing you dream about. Theplayers have made a lot o...

Roy smashes 78 as England march into final

Opening batsman Jason Roy struck a career-best 78 as former champions England stormed into the World Twenty20 final with a seven-wicket romp against New Zealand on Wednesday. Electing to field, England staged a strong comeback in the second half of New Zealand's innings to restrict their opponents to a modest 153 for eight at the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium. Roy and Alex Hales (20) then provided a flying start to their reply and Jos Buttler smacked a six to seal semi-final victory with 17 balls to spare. England, the 2010 champions, now meet the winners of Thursday's match between India and West Indies on Sunday. Roy launched England's reply in emphatic style, smacking four boundaries off the first over by Corey Anderson. New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson introduced spinner Mitchell Santner in the fifth over but a breakthrough still proved elusive. Roy took 26 balls to bring up his maiden half-century in Twenty20 internationals as he put on 82 for the first wicket with ...

India ready to take on 'dangerous' Windies: Shastri

India cricket team director Ravi Shastri on Wednesday described their World Twenty20 semifinal opponent West Indies as one of the 'dangerous' sides in the shortest format of the game but insisted that his team is 'up and ready' to pack a punch to seal their place in the final. World T20 - Complete Coverage "West Indies are probably one of the most dangerous sides in this format and have got explosive players and match winners. We know what we are up against but we are up and ready as well," Shastri told reporters on the eve of the second semifinal clash at the Wankhede Stadium which promises to be a battle of nerves. India have majorly relied on star batsman Virat Kohli in an otherwise misfiring batting line-up to progress to the semifinals. The hosts bounced back from a shocking opening loss against New Zealand at Nagpur to stage a spirited comeback against Pakistan, Bangladesh and Australia to reach the last-four stage. Shastri believes that India need t...

Jolt for India, Yuvraj out of WT20 with ankle injury

In a setback to India before their semifinal clash against the West Indies, all-rounder Yuvraj Singh was on Wednesday ruled out of the ongoing World Twenty20 due to an ankle injury. World T20 - Complete Coverage Yuvraj has been replaced by Manish Pandey, who was called in as cover for him on Monday. "The ICC has confirmed that the Event Technical Committee of the ICC World Twenty20 India 2016 has approved Manish Pandey as a replacement player for Yuvraj Singh in India's squad for the tournament," the ICC said in a statement. Yuvraj twisted his ankle while batting in the previous match against Australia in Mohali and has been "ruled out of further participation in the tournament". The left-hander, who was dismissed on 21 in the last match, was in pain after twisting his ankle and had to be attended by the physio in the middle. The 26-year-old Pandey has played two T20Is, which were against Zimbabwe in Harare in July last year. He has also played four ODIs. ...

Clash against India is like David vs Goliath: Sammy

West Indies captain Darren Sammy hasno qualms in conceding that India would be odds-on favouritesin tomorrow's World Twenty20 semifinal clash but insists thathis side would be no pushover in what seems like a "David vsGoliath contest". World T20 - Complete Coverage "I think it is 80-20 to India, so it feels like David vsGoliath contest but people tend to forget David won the fight,so it's something similar to that," said Sammy on the eve ofthe clash here. "We haven't played the perfect game yet. We are stressingon rotation of strike. It is clear that we are a big boundary-hitting team. We look at the dot-ball percentage, probably itis 40-50 per cent for us, and we could improve on that. Sofar, we have bowled really well in the tournament and on a fewoccasions, one batsman has taken responsibility," he said. Although Sammy admitted that star India batsman ViratKohli would be a big factor in tomorrow's game, but having theworld's ...

India bank on spin to blunt West Indies

Mumbai: The second World Twenty20 semi-final is likely to hinge on who emerges on top in the battle between the big-hitting West Indian batsmen and India's wily spinners when the former champions clash at the Wankhede Stadium on Thursday. World T20 - Complete Coverage India, the world's top-ranked side in the shortest format, arrived at the sixth edition of the tournament with 10 wins from 11 matches in 2016 and were considered overwhelming favourites by fans, opposing captains and bookmakers alike. But while an opening Super 10 stage defeat to New Zealand, who reached the semi-finals unbeaten, was a wake-up call, the home side's credentials came into question in a one-run win over Bangladesh, who lost three wickets in the last three balls. Virat Kohli's wide blade was then called on to see off a stiff challenge from 50-over world champions Australia in a winner-takes-all contest to reach the last four, his masterclass glossing over some major batting flaws for the ...

Lionel Messi scores 50th goal for Argentina

Cordoba, Argentina: Lionel Messi scored his 50th international goal to help Argentina beat Bolivia 2-0 in a 2018 World Cup qualifier on Tuesday. The win put Argentina third in the South American group with 11 points from six matches, two points behind joint leaders Ecuador and Uruguay. Ecuador suffered their first loss in the group, going down 3-1 in Colombia, while Uruguay scored a 1-0 home win over Peru. Argentina defender Gabriel Mercado, who scored the winner in Thursday's 2-1 away victory over Chile, opened the scoring in the 21st minute against Bolivia. Argentina were awarded a penalty in the 29th minute after Ronald Eguino fouled midfielder Ever Banega, and Messi made no mistake from the spot to net his 50th goal for Argentina, putting him within six of Gabriel Batistuta's record. "This (campaign) is very long and what's important is that we won and remain on course," Messi told TyC Sports. "I'm happy with goal number 50 but more because we wo...

Team India gets ready to replace Yuvraj Singh

Mumbai: Ajinkya Rahane is back in focus ahead of India's semifinal against the West Indies after Yuvraj Singh twisted his ankle in the ICC World T20 match against Australia here. Manish Pandey has also been drafted in. World T20 - Complete Coverage Rahane, who is yet to get a game in the tournament, could find himself playing at his home-ground in Mumbai if Yuvraj doesn't recover fully in time for the last-four game on March 31. Captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni, speaking after the six-wicket win on Sunday, said he is open to changes in the playing XI if the conditions demand. "I don't know whether we should make changes but it is possible, depending on the wicket. We have to see Yuvraj's injury as well. We would definitely like to have a replacement ready if the physio says his injury is bad," he said. The team management is assessing Yuvraj's condition. The southpaw, who was dismissed on 21, was in pain after twisting his ankle and had to be attended by ...

Simmons back to bolster Windies ahead of India clash

Lendl Simmons has been called up to the West Indies' World Twenty20 squad in place of the injured Andre Fletcher ahead of Thursday's semi-final against hosts India at Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium, tournament organisers said on Tuesday. World T20 - Complete Coverage The 31-year-old Simmons pulled out of the squad with a back injury before the tournament and was replaced by the uncapped Evin Lewis, but he has since recovered. Aussie coach guilty of 'ball tampering' in domestic final

Adelaide: Australia's domestic cricket final was plunged into controversy on Tuesday, after Victoria's bowling coach was found guilty of intentionally damaging the match ball. In an attempt to give his bowlers an edge, Victoria's bowling coach Mick Lewis was filmed by broadcast cameras kicking the ball into the gutter and scuffing it on the concrete -- an illegal process known as ball tampering, reports Xinhua. By scuffing the ball in the gutter, the bowlers may be able to swing the ball through the air with greater ease, making it harder for the batsmen to hit. Lewis, a former player for the Australian national team, pleaded guilty overnight and was fined almost $2,000 -- equal to half of a player's match fee for the domestic competition. Cricket Australia's head of operations Sean Cary said ball tampering was a "very serious offence" -- especially in a grand final. "Ball tampering is a very serious offence and simply won't be tolerated at a...

'Toss will play a huge role in 1st semi-final at Kotla'

If form is the yardstick, then obviously NZ start as favourites to win the first of the two semifinals. But it's not that's simple, especially in T20 cricket. There is another factor that will play a huge role in deciding the fate of the match played at the Feroz Shah Kotla, and that's the toss. The team that wins it will want to chase here and that gives the team a huge advantage. The Kotla pitch has something for the spinners if you bowl first, and nothing for both spinners and seamers when you bowl second. Apart from the brilliance of Angelo this was one reason why Sri Lanka recovered from 17 for 5 to get within touching distance of England's score of 171. Santner and Ish Sodhi have been bowling like seasoned subcontinent spinners on these pitches, if they bowl second, they will get neutralised, which means NZ lose their big strength, their main weapon that has got them to win all their super 10 games. England batting is running into some good form, guys like Jas...

'It's Williamson vs Root in the first semi-final'

The first semi final between New Zealand and England should be a cracker of a game. Both teams are well matched and have the kind of balance that skippers and coaches are would die for. If the Kiwis have played the smartest cricket by far in this tournament England have shown a resilience and late order explosion that other teams would give anything for. Jos Buttler's assault on the Lankan bowlers in England's final game of the group stage is an indication of how quickly a game can turn around in this format. He has shown in recent matches that he is probably the best finisher in this format and England will be hoping for another blast from him to take them through to another T20 finals. Virat Kohli's brilliant stroke play in the must win game against the Australians is going to be remembered for a long long time. Those who were present at the Wankhede Stadium a couple of weeks earlier when England set off in chase of South Africa's 229 will not forget Joe Root's in...

'India has many match winners, won't focus on Virat only'

Mumbai: Swashbuckling West Indies opener Chris Gayle today conceded that India would start as favourites in the World T20 semifinal showdown here on Thursday as the home side have "many match-winners" but warned that the Caribbeans would also be plotting for an upset win. World T20 - Complete Coverage Talking to reporters after the West Indies team's practice session at the Brabourne stadium here, Gayle said that his side will also not focus only on Virat Kohli, who has been in sublime form in the tournament, but on the Indian team as a whole. "India have come back with three wins after being one down. There have the momentum, there is no doubt about that and a lot of confidence coming into the semifinal game as well. It is very difficult to pinpoint one particular player in the Indian team. It is a very good all-round team, good fielding team as well," Gayle said. "That's why India are the favourites. It is always going to be difficult to beat them...

Peaking England meet soaring Kiwis in Kotla humdinger

England skipper Eoin Morgan would like to believe his team peaked at the right time at the ongoing World Twenty20 while New Zealand were slightly premature going into Wednesday's semi-final at the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium. Kane Williamson and his Kiwi team mates have not put a foot wrong since landing in India, winning all four group matches without really breaking a sweat to qualify for the semi-finals as the tournament's only unbeaten team. For a side boasting an explosive batting order and a balanced attack to go with, England's passage proved bumpier. Even before they could soak in the atmosphere, England were blown away by a Chris Gayle century in their tournament opener against West Indies in Mumbai. Joe Root sparked their recovery in the 230-run chase against South Africa but the narrow victory against Afghanistan's modest resources exposed their frailties against spin bowling. They looked a significantly better side, however, in Saturday's 10-run win aga...

Kohli zooms to the top in ICC T20I rankings

Powered by his marauding knocksin the World Twenty20 so far, Indian batsman Virat Kohli Tuesday became the top-ranked batsman in the ICC rankings, while Indiaremained static at the No.1 spot in the team list. World T20 - Complete Coverage Kohli, who averages 92 after scoring 184 runs in fourmatches at a strike-rate of over 132, had entered thetournament 24 points behind Aaron Finch, but has now opened upa 68-point advantage over the Australian, the ICC said in astatement. In the bowlers' table, West Indies' Samuel Badree hasdisplaced Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin to return tothe number-one position. Badree has taken six wickets in fourmatches to date, while Ashwin has dropped to third aftermanaging just four wickets in as many matches. Four of the top five sides will feature in the semifinalsof the ICC World Twenty20, which will be played in Delhi andMumbai on Wednesday and Thursday, respectively. Thought we were out of tournament in 10 overs: Kohli

Mohali: Batting superstar Virat Kohli feared that India were virtually out of the ICC World T20 after the first 10 overs of their chase against Australia and has no idea how he and skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni managed to achieve the seemingly imposing target. World T20 - Complete Coverage "It virtually felt like you are out of the tournament at the end of 10 overs. To pull the game back after that along with MS Dhoni - I don't know how we did it. Even out there in the middle, I didn't know how this was happening. I am just grateful that I was able to do it for the team," Kohli told BCCI.TV after scripting India's memorable win. He spoke about how emotional he became once Mahendra Singh Dhoni hit the winning boundary. "It was a pretty emotional feeling when I saw Dhoni hitting the winning runs. I don't really know what to say. That is the reason you play the sport. That is the feeling that you crave as a sportsperson. It is such a wonderful moment for...

Watch: Akram confronted by drunk on live TV

4 Fast bowling legend Wasim Akram had a nasty experience here when he was confronted by a drunkard while on a live shoot for a local television channel. World T20 - Complete Coverage The former Pakistan captain was speaking at a post-match show on news channel Aaj Tak after India's thrilling victory over Australia in a World Twenty20 Group 2 match on Sunday night. According to espncricinfo.com, the show, in an outdoor setting in the central Mumbai neighbourhood of Lower Parel, was suddenly invaded by the drunk local who tried to stop the broadcast. The man entered the camera frame and appeared to grab the camera before the footage was switched away from the scene and back to the studio in Delhi. A video of the incident released online shows the man rudely confronting Akram and the camera crew, forcing the cricket legend to halt his analysis and get up from his seat. The same man reportedly disrupted another television post-match show, this time of ABP news, the shooting of wh...

Kohli world's best batsman, beyond phenomenal: Gavaskar

Blown away by Virat Kohli's power-packed knock that took India into the World Twenty20 semifinals, former captain Sunil Gavaskar has said that the marauding right-hander is currently the world's best batsman and "beyond phenomenal". Kohli's unbeaten 82-run effort was the highlight as India chased down 161 in a tense group encounter against Australia in Mohali to enter the last-four stage. The hosts will take on West Indies on March 31 in Mumbai. "At the moment he is got to be the best limited-overs batsman in the world. There is no question about it. There is not the slightest doubt about it because he is beyond phenomenal. He is something else," Gavaskar told 'NDTV'. "Whatever little hair that I have, my hair was standing at attention watching the young genius. It was just mindblowing stuff," he said. Gavaskar said the brilliance of Kohli lies in the fact that he delivers under pressure and puts the team's interest above everyth...

Zaheer Khan to lead Delhi Daredevils in IPL 2016

New Delhi: Former India pacer Zaheer Khan was on Monday named the captain of Delhi Dardevils for the 2016 Indian Premier League (IPL) cricket tournament. IPL 2016 - Complete Schedule It will be Zaheer's second successive season as a player with the Dardevils franchise. The left-armer will take over captaincy from South African all-rounder J.P. Duminy. The ninth edition of the IPL will be held from April 9 to May 29. Speaking about the appointment, the team's mentor Rahul Dravid said in a statement: "Zaheer has been a leader for a very long time. Anyone who has followed Indian cricket will know the impact Zak has had. He has always proven himself to be one of the leaders." "Zak has a big personality, but it is the steel, focus and drive behind the outward confidence which I think he will bring to the captaincy. And that, I am sure, will inspire the rest of the team." "He has the respect of the dressing room and the franchise is proud to have him as...

'South Africa once again found wanting in elite event'

Sri Lanka's spirited attempt to overhaul England's score fell short but will give them confidence for their last game against South Africa. Both teams have no chance of qualification so it is a dead game but both teams will want to show that but for a bit of luck they would have been in the semis too. The South Africans were once again found wanting in a multi-country tournament despite having some of the biggest names in the game in their ranks. The one thing that could be said is that while their batsmen have adapted to the T20 format and made the necessary changes to their approach and attitude, some of their bowlers have still not found a way and so have got taken for runs. That was evident in that nail-biting game when young Rabada bowled a back of length ball at his usual speed and was clobbered over long on for a huge six by Carlos Brathwaite. Just a couple of overs earlier David Wiese had shown the way to go by bowling an over full of slower deliveries which the West I...

Calmer Kohli should not lose his aggression: Dhoni

Mohali: India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni has hailed yet another master class knock of Virat Kohli, saying that the combination of his inherent aggression and gradually developed calmness is working wonders for the star batsman. World T20 - Complete Coverage Batting at the other end, Dhoni had the best seat in the house as Kohli single-handedly powered India into the ICC World T20 semi-finals with an unbeaten 82 off 51 balls against Australia in a must-win group match here last night. "It was an incredible innings. Especially the fact that the wicket was not easy to bat on, it was difficult to hit back of a length deliveries. The good thing is that they didn't bowl too many spinners. He (Kohli) had a partnership with Yuvi (Yuvraj Singh), who twisted his ankle and they could not convert those one and a half runs into twos. It was tremendous batting effort by him, super batting. Especially the areas you want to score runs, there also he was very good and so was his running b...

Sharif the reason for Pakistan cricket's decline: Imran

Karachi: Pakistan's former captain and top opposition leader Imran Khan has strongly criticised Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and a top official of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for damaging the sport in the country. 'Was an unbelievable innings to get India over the line'

Mohali: India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni lavished praise for the brilliant Virat Kohli but had a word of caution for the other batsmen, who he thinks "need to step up" in the next two matches of the World T20. World T20 - Complete Coverage India's top-order has been woefully short of runs with none among Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma, Suresh Raina getting significant scores on a consistent basis. "The others (batsmen) have to step up now. We can't keep relying on him. I think the others are contributing but we need to step up our game. Barring Virat, we have been 60-65 percent in terms of our batting," Dhoni said at the post-match presentation ceremony. Dhoni has praised Kohli's temperament and match-winning prowess a million times and it was no different in Mohali. "It's not the first time I've enjoyed it(from the other end). He is been playing brilliantly over the last few years. He has kept improving his game. He is very hungry to ...

Win over Oz crucial for India's WT20 success: Sreesanth

World T20 - Complete Coverage "I wish the Indian cricket team the very best. I was very fortunate to be a part of 2007 victorious side. We are doing really well. It is like a quarterfinal today. He's going to be a very good signing," Taylor said. ...

'Quinton de Kock is CEAT International Cricketer of the Week'

By the time you read this at least one of the semi-final line-up for the ICC World Twenty Twenty would have been decided. The T20 format is such that it levels the competition and as was seen from the performance of Afghanistan that even an associate team can give the full member teams a run for their money. Not too many bowlers enjoy the format as they are invariably on a hiding to nothing though India's Ravi Ashwin has been among the few bowlers who have won a man of the match award in this format more than once. On India's spinning pitches Ashwin and his partner Ravindra Jadeja have been terrific as they have made it hard for the opposition batsmen to counter them. On other pitches especially the one at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai the batsmen have enjoyed themselves as the ball has come through nicely and the true bounce has allowed them to play through the line without too much worry about deviation from the pitch. Quinton de Kock and Joe Root batted superbly in Mumbai i...
