Mourinho: Martial 'cannot have all the things he wants in life'

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has said that the club striker Anthony Martial "cannot have all the things he wants in life". Martial had, earlier, expressed a desire to leave the club after he saw his opportunities cut short under Jose Mourinho and following the arrival of the forward player Alexis Sanchez. "You cannot do whatever you want in life, I would love to arrive in Los Angeles, to train in Los Angeles and play all my five matches in Los Angeles, and then don't travel, don't change hotel and then go back to Manchester," Sports24 quoted Mourinho, as saying. "I would like to play against Leicester on Sunday but I have to play on Friday, so you don't get always in life what you want," he added. The forward player, reportedly, struggled to gain a spot in the starting XI with 12 of his 30 league appearances coming off the bench in 2017-18 under Mourinho. Martial, who joined United in 2015, had an impactful debut season in whic...

"It is with a heavy heart and after much consideration that because of recent events, I will no longer be playing for Germany at international level whilst I have this feeling of racism and disrespect. I used to wear the German shirt with such pride and excitement but now I don't," the Arsenal star said. "This decision has been extremely difficult to make because I have always given everything for my teammates, the coaching staff and the good people of Germany. But when high-ranking officials of the DFB (the German football federation) t...

France beat Croatia 4-2 to seal World Cup title

1.France beat Croatia in an eventful World Cup final in Moscow that ended 4-2. They now have won 2 World Cup titles, having previously won on home soil in 1998. 2.Croatia have reasons to feel unlucky because it was a debatable penalty decision that changed the game when it was locked at 1-1. 3.Earlier, Mario Mandzukic had become the first person to score an own goal in a World Cup final when his error gave France a 1-0 lead. 4.But Ivan Perisic had pulled level soon enough to make it 1-1 to Croatia. 5.That's when the penalty decision happened. The referee did not think Perisic had handled the ball inside the area but after checking VAR, he changed his mind. 6.Antoine Griezmann scored his fourth goal of the World Cup from the ensuing spotkick. 7.After that it was all France. Paul Pogba scored from a long-range effort before Kylian Mbappe did the same, his fourth strike of the World Cup. 8.With twenty minutes left, Mandzukic scored a second for Croatia givi...

FIFA World Cup: Decoding France's dream run

Twenty years after winning its first FIFA World Cup in 1998 as an 'underdog', France on Sunday repeated history in Russia as the world favourites defeated Croatia 4-2 in a high-octane final at the Luzhniki Stadium here. France won their first two group games without showing their best form as Antoine Griezmann and Paul Pogba were not playing. They beat Australia 2-1 and Peru 1-0. They booked their spot in the round of 16 after a goalless draw against Denmark. However, it was their 4-3 win against Argentina in the roun...

England go home after third defeat at World Cup

1.England were beaten 2-1 by Belgium in the third-place playoff, making it 3 defeats for the Three Lions at the World Cup in Russia. 2.After all that promise and talk of ‘It’s Coming Home’, England’s World Cup outing looks quite dismal when you consider the fact that they lost 3 of their 7 matches.Having beaten minnows Tunisia and Panama, they lost their final group game versus Belgium. Knockout round victories against Colombia and Sweden got their fans to start believing, but defeat in the semifinal to Croatia followed by this result against Belgium broke their bubble. 3.9 of the 12 English goals at the World Cup had come from set pieces. 2 out of their 3 goals from open play had come in the 6-0 win over Panama. In other words, England struggled for rhythm throughout the tournament. Their weaknesses were masked by the fact that they advanced further than anyone expected them to. 4.They also did not have to face any of Germany, Argentina, Uruguay, Portugal, France or Bra...

What to expect in Belgium vs England third-place play-off

1.Both Belgium and England lost their respective World Cup semifinals but they have a lot to play for in the third-place play-off on Saturday. 2.For starters, having missed out on the chance to play in the World Cup final, this is their best chance to redeem some of the lost pride. 3.And this match always promises to be a spectacle. The last 4 World Cup finals have seen just 6 goals but the last 4 third-place play-offs have seen a whopping 17 strikes! 4.Having missed out on the chance to play the biggest football match of their careers, the players instead of returning home empty-handed have another chance to win something. 5.Harry Kane has 6 goals for England while Romelu Lukaku has 4. Both of them will be eyeing the Golden Boot and have a chance to seal that on Saturday. 6.In 1990, Salvatore Schillaci won the Golden Boot thanks to a late penalty in the third-place play-off. Thomas Muller repeated the trick in 2010. Who is it going to be this time? 7.The flip ...

Croatia book final date at England's expense

1.Despite taking a very early lead, England lost their semifinal to Croatia who will now meet France in Sunday's final. 2.Coming into the match, 8 of England's 11 World Cup goals had come from set pieces. Here too, after England won a freekick in the third minute, Kieran Trippier scored his first international goal as England led 1-0. 3.They had plenty of chances after that. Raheem Sterling was particularly wasteful and it looked like England would pay for their sloppiness as Croatia were slowly getting back into the game. 4.The Croats were stunned by the early goal. But slowly, with Luka Modric leading the charge, they started passing around, looking for openings. 5.England tried to shut shop a little too early and switched to time-wasting tactics. Croatia could sniff an equalizer and they finally got one through Ivan Perisic. 6.Locked at 1-1, the game went to extra time. This was the third-straight game that had gone into 120 minutes for Croatia. That add...

France are favourites going into the final

1.The way France overcame Belgium as they marched into the World Cup final has suggested that whether it’s against England or Croatia, they will be favourites in the decider! 2.Against a Belgium side that boasted of 10 EPL stars in their starting lineup, France were clearly the superior side. 3.Eden Hazard and Kevin de Bruyne excelled for Belgium and they had some chances early on. But they failed to find the back of the net. 4.Overall, it was France who dominated the match. Once they claimed the lead through Samuel Umtiti’s header, they dominated possession. 5.At this World Cup, it is France who look to have found the right balance between attack and defence. They guard their goal well and counter attack with pace. 6.Mbappe might still be just 19 but he put on another sizzling display of pace, power and trickery. He was a handful for the Belgian defence throughout the 90 minutes. 7.Whether it is against England or Croatia, he is definitely going to be a nightm...
