London: Manchester City’s Argentine striker Sergio Aguero has broken a rib in a road accident in the Netherlands and will miss Saturday’s Premier League game at Chelsea with World Cup qualifiers also doubtful. The 29-year-old, scorer of six goals in six league appearances this season, had been attending a concert in Amsterdam on his day off. “The taxi I was riding (in) made a wrong turn and crashed against a (street) pole. It was a very heavy slam but seatbelts prevented it from being worse,” he said on Twitter after returning to Manchester. “It’s a broken rib. Hurts, but I‘m fine, fully focussed on recovery. Thank you all.” Manager Pep Guardiola, speaking to reporters before Aguero had seen club doctors, said the player was definitely out of Saturday’s game between league leaders City and champions Chelsea. He also cast doubt on Aguero travelling to Argentina for World Cup qualifiers next month. “Exactly how many days he will be off, I don’t know right now,” he said, adding th...

To increase the pool of talented players, "The Overseas Scouting " project was launched as a joint venture between the All India Football Federation (AIFF) and the Sports Authority of India (SAI). Sons of non-resident Indians could send videos of their matches and experts decided if they could be chosen for the national squad. Many applied and the mission was successful, as there are two new recruits in the Indian U-17 World Cup squad: Canada-based goalkeeper Sunny Dhaliwal and US-based Namit Deshpande. Agar takes four as Australia hammer Presidents XI

Ashton Agar took four wickets as Australia beat Indian Board Presidents XI by 103 runs to win the only one-off warm-up game at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Tuesday. Presidents XI were off to a poor start as they lost Rahul Tripathi for just 10 runs on board. However, Shreevats Goswami (43) and Mayank Agarwal (42) did the repair work and forged a 79-run stand for the second wicket. Just when the duo was looking to stretch their partnership, Adam Zampa removed Agarwal. Couple of overs later, the well-set Goswami too departed leaving the home side in all sorts of trouble. The responsibility of bailing the team out of trouble fell on skipper Gurkeerat Singh Mann and Nitish Rana. However, a horrible mix-up saw Rana fall short of his crease as Australia tightened screws on an inexperienced batting line-up. With the asking rate climbing, Gurkeerat b...

"I am not too concerned about the differences with Kohli. He is obviously a very good player and has a phenomenal ODI record. Hopefully, we can keep him quiet as much as possible in this series. If we do that then hopefully it can go a long way in us having success on this tour," Smith said. 'No spin threat for Australia in India' The Australian one-day side are better equipped to handle spin in the...

He is like a phoenix who has time and again shown that he loves rising from the ashes and proving critics wrong. From past experience, I would think it is too early to ...

They should have done it five years ago," Kapil told TOI . Kapil further went on to add that he would love to see some of the Indian cricketers buying their personal jets in the days to come. Ice-cool Stephens too good for Keys in U.S. Open final

Sloane Stephens stayed composed throughout the U.S. Open final, playing near-perfect tennis to win her maiden grand slam title with a 6-3 6-0 victory against Madison Keys as the future of American women’s tennis seemed assured on Saturday. The 24-year-old, back this summer from almost a year off the courts because of a foot injury, was never in trouble as her defensive play derailed the 15th-seeded Keys, who was playing with a heavily bandaged right thigh. “It’s incredible. I honestly had surgery Jan 23 and if someone had told me I’d win the U.S. Open I would have said it’s impossible,” said the unseeded Stephens who, after celebrating, sat down and chatted with Keys. “Madi is one of my best friends on tour and to play her here, I wouldn’t have wanted to play anyone else. I told her I wish it could be a draw and if it was the other way around she’d do the same. To stand here with her today is incredible, that’s what real friendship is.” Keys noted, “Sloane is truly one of my favou...
