The job of Team India manager is not an easy profile to ace. Apparently, the candidates who applied for the role had this tricky question fired at them: How would you have handled the rift between Indian captain Virat Kohli and former India coach Anil Kumble?
According to a report in the Indian Express, this was the a common question to all 12 candidates during their job interviews in Mumbai and Delhi on Tuesday.
Reportedly, most of the candidates responded on the lines that the captain must have full authority and batted for an immediate solution if such a conflict arises again. A few even stressed the importance of the sanctity of the dressing room.Out of the 12, BCCI has shortlisted five candidates whose resumes will now be sent to BCCI acting secretary Amitabh Chaudhary and Cricket of Administrators (CoA) chief Vinod Rai for their views.
As per reports, there were just about 35 applications for the advertisement for the post.
Earlier this month, the BCCI sought applications for the post, with July 21 set as the last date of submission.
In the aftermath of the Kohli-Kumble fiasco, the BCCI's is keen on hiring a trustworthy manager who can handle such conflicts before things become 'untenable' as in the case of former India coach Kumble
In their advertisement for the job, BCCI had made it clear that "Conflict resolution and negotiation skills are mandatory requisites of a candidate and should be able to demonstrate abilities/situations that have been successfully managed during their career".
