Umpiring Howlers: Bumrah asks Morgan to move on

Bangalore: Ahead of the third and final T20, Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah has indirectly asked England skipper Eoin Morgan, who is 'frustrated' after the umpiring mistakes that took place in the Nagpur game, to 'move on'.

According to Morgan, the umpire's decision to rule Joe Root out LBW at a crucial juncture cost them the second T20 against India and that they would raise the issue with the ICC match referee.

Root was adjudged LBW by umpire C Shamshuddin on the first ball of the last over when England needed eight runs. The decision in India's favour apparently proved to be the turning point of the match and allowed the Virat Kohli-led side to level the three-match series. As it turned out to be, Root and Jos Buttler and could score only two runs off the last over, bowled by Bumrah.

However, in the replays, it was visible that Root had edged the ball before it hit his pad.

Another decision that earlier went against England was when Shamshuddin gave Kohli a reprieve when he appeared to be LBW on seven during the first innings.

"There is extreme frustration, absolutely," Morgan said after the match.

"It shifted momentum, first ball of the 20th over, losing a batsman who's faced [almost] 40 balls on a wicket that's not that easy to time it is quite a hammer blow. It's proved very costly all things considered. A couple of decisions didn't go our way and we still should have won the game and that's a big positive for us. That we didn't, is disappointing," he added.

Bumrah, when quizzed about the same at the eve of the series decider on Tuesday, said, "We don't focus too much on the decisions given by the umpire."

"Sometimes, it goes in our favour, sometimes it goes in their favour. That happens in cricket. So, you have to move on with it. We don't focus too much on the decisions."

He also heaped praise on veteran left-arm pacer and teammate Ashish Nehra, saying the latter has a lot of experience at the international level and his guidance is very valuable.

"He (Nehra) has always been helpful. I have played T20 World Cup with him as well. So, I have played a few matches with him. So, his guidance is always very valuable. He has played a lot of international cricket and has a lot of experience to share with us," he said.

Bumrah had come out with a stellar bowling performance in the final over of the Nagpur game conceding just two runs and taking two wickets in the final to help India level the three-match T20 series 1-1.

Besides Bumrah, Nehra has also taken two English wickets in successive balls and then took one more crucial wicket in the later part of the innings to help his side clinch a crucial win.

India withdraw Smith protest as boards make peace in DRS row

India have withdrawn an official protest about the actions of Australia captain Steve Smith in the second test as the governing bodies of both countries moved to bring an end to the acrimony surrounding the ongoing four-match series. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had earlier registered a complaint to the International Cricket Council (ICC) over Smith looking to the dressing room for guidance on whether to review an lbw decision during the Bengaluru match. Despite the hosts winning the test to level the series at 1-1 on Tuesday, India skipper Virat Kohli alleged the tourists had indulged in the practice throughout the match, sparking a war of words in the media and a robust response from Australia. The boards released a joint statement on Friday saying the chief executives of both bodies had met in Mumbai on Thursday and agreed to try and bring the focus "back to the game" ahead of next week's third test in Ranchi. "India has always cherished a c...

Leeds [UK], Dec 7 (ANI): Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has praised midfielder Paul Pogba, saying that he is one of the best players in the world when he is in good touch. "Paul is going to play when he gets his fitness. He is one of the best players in the world when he's in form and we just need to give him time to be 100 per cent fit," Goal.com quoted Solskjaer as saying. Pogba has endured a frustrating 2019-20 campaign to date, having only managed five Premier League appearances in total due to a string of fitness issues. He is currently recovering from an ankle injury and last played for the club on September 30 against Arsenal. Solskjaer had said that the France international will be out of action till December. "It might be 45 minutes in the first game, it might be half an hour, it might be 90. It depends on what game he comes back in and I'm looking back to get Paul back to where I had him about a year ago," Solskjaer said. ...
