Kohli flops once? Rubbish Anushka a 100 times!

While there’s hardly any field that Twitter doesn’t singe and create controversy, this year wasa particular bad year for social media and cricket. A high number of controversies weregenerated and cricketers were left fuming at the chain of events.

A look at some of them…

Kohli-Anushka: Runs, runs, runs and still tonnes of brickbats!

While cricketers like Rohit Sharma, Sir Ravindra Jadeja and Ishant Sharma have been thebutt of Twitter jokes for their on-field performances, one struggles to think the last time Virat

Kohli was in really bad form. Feels like another era.But he still has been facing the brunt of it thanks to his relationship with Bollywood actressAnushka Sharma. A long time back when he faced a period of bad form, instead of attackinghim, some wise aleck blamed Anushka and it trended.

While it was in bad taste, social media would repeat the process whenever Kohli was in badform and lately when he has been in sensational form the Anushka jokes would be out evenin a rare Kohli cheap dismissal!

Kohli had had enough and Tweeted a graphic with the word “Shame” with the following…Shame on people for trolling @AnushkaSharma non-stop. Have some compassion. She hasalways only given me positivity

That got a good hundred thousand plus likes.

The year ended with the media gossip columns driving themselves into frenzy over theimminent engagement of Kohli and Anushka and this time Kohli cheekily Tweeted…

Whatever happened to Harsha Bhogle?

In a last-over finish in a T20 match versus Bangladesh in the World Cup, India secured athrilling and nail-biting win. While all the Indian fans celebrated the event, one fan had agrouse.

Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan Tweeted…

And then he personally responded to Tweeple who responded to that. Sample some ofthem…@raj20k yes !! jab dekho unki tareef karte rehte hain .. out unka batsman, aur uske liye dukhvyakt kar rahe hain .. arre .. hamari bowling

@vmittra not just lack lustre .. simply biased .. always speaking and praising opposition .. !!

When captain MS Dhoni Tweeted…Nothing to add

…that seemed to end the argument that there was indeed something gravely wrong. While nonames were taken, all the fingers were pointed at Harsha Bhogle and some of the followingTweets were presented as evidence…

A perplexed Bhogle was surprised at the fuss and finally defended himself in a longFacebook post…

But the damage seemed to have been done. Bhogle found his contract terminated for the IPLimmediately after that and was missing from subsequent international matches too.

When Dhoni fans got upset with Ashwin

Spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has been in the form of his life and 2016 was absolutelybrilliant for him. The crowning achievement for him was being declared ICC Cricketer of theYear.

While that would have seemed harmless to the average reader, fans of MS Dhoni were upsetthat his name wasn’t taken. “How could Ashwin be so ungrateful to Dhoni?” they wondered.

While Ashwin tried not to respond, he had to when his wife was mentioned by one of thefans…

While Ashwin did mention Dhoni’s name in his thank you speech, he didn’t exactly seem tobe thanking him as this clip show…

When a Bangladeshi fan posted a really disgusting image

The Bhogle controversy wasn’t the only one that raged on in social media during that period.

Before the T20 World Cup we had the T20 Asia Cup and during that time some bright aleckfan posted a photoshopped photo of Bangladeshi fast bowler Taskin Ahmed with Dhoni’ssevered head.

India and Dhoni had the last laugh and the Indian fans went wild on Twitter…

The Master Blaster of Twitter Knights rises…

One person who is never at the receiving end whether it’s on the field or off it is Virender

Sehwag. Though he entered the Twitterverse way back in he entered the slog overs in 2016.

Most memorable is his back and forth with TV host Piers Morgan during the Olympics…

Country with 1.2 billion people wildly celebrates 2 losing medals. How embarrassing is that?

We cherish every small happiness',But Eng who invented Cricket,&yet2win a WC,still continue to playWC.Embarrassing?

We soon won Gold at the Rio Paralympics and Sehwag fans went after Morgan.

When Morgan corrected a Sehwag typo...

Sehwag also knows how to troll his fellow players…

With that he posted a video of him hitting him for a six to get a Test triple century at thehistoric Multan match where we won a Test on Pakistan soil for the first time and went on towin the series!

When Shami clean bowled his trolls

Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami posted some delightful photos of his family and he gottrolled because his wife was wearing a gown! While the disgusting comments came one afteranother, Shami showed that he can bowl Yorkers both on and off the field with this Facebookpost…

Kaif trolled at the death (of 2016)…

While the last day of the year is spent for celebrations, the trolls continued till the very end.

Former India batsman Mohammed Kaif posted photos of him doing Surya Namaskar onTwitter…

He was criticized by a certain sections of Muslims and here’s one such sample…

Kaif’s response?

You could well call 2016 the year when Indian cricketers got it really bad, but gave it backeven worse to their critics!

India withdraw Smith protest as boards make peace in DRS row

India have withdrawn an official protest about the actions of Australia captain Steve Smith in the second test as the governing bodies of both countries moved to bring an end to the acrimony surrounding the ongoing four-match series. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had earlier registered a complaint to the International Cricket Council (ICC) over Smith looking to the dressing room for guidance on whether to review an lbw decision during the Bengaluru match. Despite the hosts winning the test to level the series at 1-1 on Tuesday, India skipper Virat Kohli alleged the tourists had indulged in the practice throughout the match, sparking a war of words in the media and a robust response from Australia. The boards released a joint statement on Friday saying the chief executives of both bodies had met in Mumbai on Thursday and agreed to try and bring the focus "back to the game" ahead of next week's third test in Ranchi. "India has always cherished a c...

Pogba is one of best players when in form: Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

Leeds [UK], Dec 7 (ANI): Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has praised midfielder Paul Pogba, saying that he is one of the best players in the world when he is in good touch. "Paul is going to play when he gets his fitness. He is one of the best players in the world when he's in form and we just need to give him time to be 100 per cent fit," Goal.com quoted Solskjaer as saying. Pogba has endured a frustrating 2019-20 campaign to date, having only managed five Premier League appearances in total due to a string of fitness issues. He is currently recovering from an ankle injury and last played for the club on September 30 against Arsenal. Solskjaer had said that the France international will be out of action till December. "It might be 45 minutes in the first game, it might be half an hour, it might be 90. It depends on what game he comes back in and I'm looking back to get Paul back to where I had him about a year ago," Solskjaer said. ...
