We wanted to chase them down: Kohli

Cricket's latest run machine Virat Kohli once again showed why he is the best as the India vice-captain slammed a brilliant unbeaten 154 to guide India to a seven wicket win over New Zealand.

Kohli who was handed a life by Ross Taylor while batting on 1, went on to notch a match-winning century as India took a 2-1 lead at Mohali.

"Bit of luck went my way, I feel sorry for Ross, it's never easy to drop a catch and the batsman carries through. I've done that, and Brendon got 300 in Wellington," an elated Kohli who won the man-of-the-match award said.

India had New Zealand on the mat with the visitors struggling at 180 for the loss of seven wickets. But the Indian bowlers let the pressure off as New Zealand set India stiff target of 285 runs.

"We may have given a bit too much to New Zealand, but we took it as an opportunity to chase them down, because we know we are a good chasing team," Kohli said.

Kohli had the company of his skipper MS Dhoni in the middle as the duo stitched a brilliant 151-run partnership to steer India.

Speaking on batting alongside with Dhoni, Kohli said, "Good to have MS up the order. Shows the confidence he has, he was run-out in the last game, but he came here and did his job. Some of the boundaries he hit early on helped me relax."

"We fed off each other, I fed off MS as well. And it wasn't the easiest pitch. Some balls were stopping on us," he added.

Kohli has been the lynchpin of the Indian batting line-up and his wicket turned out to be the key in the second ODI as India lost at Kotla by six runs.

Speaking on his own batting, Kohli said, "In the past I have tried to play out of my skin, getting overexcited, but I've realised if I can time the ball, and hit the gaps and run hard, I can still get runs. If a bowler can hit the right areas a be good, a batsman can be good playing proper shots."

"Me and MS had a chat, he took on the spinner, even mistimed hits go over the crowd. I know teams want to get me out immediately, so I take my time, go with the flow and then attack at the end. For that you need to play percentage cricket and I know I can play good cricketing shots and still get runs," he signed off.

Manchester United to do everything to get Rashford ready for Liverpool clash

Leeds [UK], Jan 16 (ANI): Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said they will do 'everything' they can to get Marcus Rashford in shape for the Liverpool clash. Rashford sustained a back injury on Thursday during the FA Cup clash against Wolves on Thursday and left the field. "He's a quick healer and he'll play through some pain, definitely, if he's capable, if it's not a bad, bad injury. But we've seen that he's struggled lately - but more when he's been tired," Goal.com quoted Solskjaer as saying. "He wasn't on long enough to be tired so I think it might have been something that just happened there and then. He's been absolutely top this season so we'll do everything we can to get him fit for Sunday. If he's not then we'll play without him," he added. Leeds [UK], Dec 7 (ANI): Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has praised midfielder Paul Pogba, saying that he is one of the best players in the world when he is in good touch. "Paul is going to play when he gets his fitness. He is one of the best players in the world when he's in form and we just need to give him time to be 100 per cent fit," Goal.com quoted Solskjaer as saying. Pogba has endured a frustrating 2019-20 campaign to date, having only managed five Premier League appearances in total due to a string of fitness issues. He is currently recovering from an ankle injury and last played for the club on September 30 against Arsenal. Solskjaer had said that the France international will be out of action till December. "It might be 45 minutes in the first game, it might be half an hour, it might be 90. It depends on what game he comes back in and I'm looking back to get Paul back to where I had him about a year ago," Solskjaer said. ...
