Dilshan will play his final ODI in Dambulla on Sunday against Australia and will last play his T20 match in Colombo on September 9.
It is understood that Dilshan has been forced to retire from the shortest formats of the game as the current national selectors and skipper Angelo Mathews are building a team with the 2019 World Cup in view.
Dilshan had missed the limited-overs series against England and Ireland for personal reasons.
Dilshan has been the most-consistent batsman of the country over the last two years, having notched up a total of 1207 ODI runs at an average of 52.47 in 2015 itself.
However, Dilshan, who took retirement from Test cricket in late 2013, ruled out the chances of retirement from shorter formats of the game then. But with the cricet board pressurizing him,Dilshan had no choice but to hang up his boots.
Kusal Perera, who is being cleared from doping charges, is likely to replace the 39-year-old at the top of the batting order.
