Always want to contribute for the team: Ashwin

R Ashwin who won the man of the series award for his brilliant performance said that contributing to team's success is always great.

Ashwin picked his sixth man of the series award further said that each and every member contributed towards the series win.

"It's No. 6 and I'm very happy about it. Contributing in a win for the team is always great," Ashwin said.

"When we started this series, we wanted to come here and play aggressive cricket. We wanted to play five bowlers in all the games, that's something we wanted to try out."

When asked about the positives, he said, "What we'll take away from here is a lot of positives. The team is such that everyone's closely monitored and their contributions are appreciated. That's why we're doing well as a unit."

India skipper Virat Kohli was clearly disappointed as no there was no play after the first session on Day one. The skipper on his part gave a cheeky reply when asked what he was doing for the past four days.

"Lot of play stations and training in the gym. It's pretty disappointing to turn up and see there's no play. We all want to do something or the other. Someone's been doing something or the other. At the ground, we've been itching to do something," he said.

Pakistan dislodged India and became the Number one Test team after the final Test ended in a draw.

"I said it when we became No. 1 that it was a short-term incentive. Other sides have played 10-15 Tests more than us, so it will keep switching. We can judge ourselves better at the end of our home season," Kohli said.

Speaking about the team, the skipper said, "People have stood up at different times. Ashwin gets wickets, KL Rahul comes in and gets runs, Shikhar Dhawan scores a few, as does Umesh. I'm particularly pleased for Saha. Him coming good is one of the biggest positives as far as I'm concerned."

When asked about his Test captaincy, Kohli said that captaincy has been a good phase.

"A bit too much passion and excitement early on, but we're all of the same age group, so they keep speaking to me. They feed me with good ideas, something we can hold back on or attack more. That's been the biggest help for me."

The skipper also had a word of praise for new head coach Anil Kumble who started his tenure with a series win.

"Anil Kumble's contribution has been great, particularly from the bowling point of view. His passion and commitment for the game has been loved by everyone. It will be a tough season at home, but we'll leave with our head held high. We need to be boring in our preparation to keep winning," the skipper signed off.

India withdraw Smith protest as boards make peace in DRS row

India have withdrawn an official protest about the actions of Australia captain Steve Smith in the second test as the governing bodies of both countries moved to bring an end to the acrimony surrounding the ongoing four-match series. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had earlier registered a complaint to the International Cricket Council (ICC) over Smith looking to the dressing room for guidance on whether to review an lbw decision during the Bengaluru match. Despite the hosts winning the test to level the series at 1-1 on Tuesday, India skipper Virat Kohli alleged the tourists had indulged in the practice throughout the match, sparking a war of words in the media and a robust response from Australia. The boards released a joint statement on Friday saying the chief executives of both bodies had met in Mumbai on Thursday and agreed to try and bring the focus "back to the game" ahead of next week's third test in Ranchi. "India has always cherished a c...

Leeds [UK], Dec 7 (ANI): Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has praised midfielder Paul Pogba, saying that he is one of the best players in the world when he is in good touch. "Paul is going to play when he gets his fitness. He is one of the best players in the world when he's in form and we just need to give him time to be 100 per cent fit," Goal.com quoted Solskjaer as saying. Pogba has endured a frustrating 2019-20 campaign to date, having only managed five Premier League appearances in total due to a string of fitness issues. He is currently recovering from an ankle injury and last played for the club on September 30 against Arsenal. Solskjaer had said that the France international will be out of action till December. "It might be 45 minutes in the first game, it might be half an hour, it might be 90. It depends on what game he comes back in and I'm looking back to get Paul back to where I had him about a year ago," Solskjaer said. ...
