BCCI president Anurag Thakur branding it as the 'mini IPL' or 'IPL overseas' said that the final dates and format will be announced soon.
"In the month of September, the BCCI is willing to host a mini IPL or IPL overseas with all the eight teams participating," Thakur said.
"It will be a shorter format, not home and away matches but a lesser number of matches; in a two-week window we would be able to complete it," the Board President declared.
Terming it as an annual affair, Thakur said, "We have to speak to the franchises, broadcasters and look at the revenue model. Many countries are willing to host. We have to look at the various time zone (and decide) where we can take it. It will be an annual affair."
Earlier, the IPL governing council had set a proposal of launching a mini IPL in September. The idea was discussed during the ongoing annual conclave at Dharamsala and the final call was taken at the BCCI working committee meeting on Friday.
"There's a window which has been left vacant in September after the Champions League T20 was discontinued from last year. The Mumbai Indians wanted to play a few games against another franchise. Their request has been turned down and instead a proposal to launch a mini IPL was floated. We're now considering the possibility of playing a short duration (10-15 days) tournament in the UAE or the US, in which all the eight teams can take part," a senior Board official told TOI.
It is understood that the mini IPL will be held either in Dubai or USA and that the duration of the tournament will be approximately two-three weeks.
All the eight franchises will take part in the tournament.
