Messi makes history by outshining Iniesta's record

As Barcelona vanquished Levante 1-0 on Sunday, Barcelona star Lionel Messi achieved another milestone of winning the most number of La Liga titles, 10, with the club. After Messi won his 10th La Liga title with Barcelona, he surpassed the previous record, which was held by Andres Iniesta (9). Messi goal helped his side beat Levante, who managed to defend well in the first-half as Messi did not feature in the first half. However, when the Argentine international took the field in the second half, the 31-year old took just 16 minutes to score the opening goal for his side which helped his side clinch the La Liga title. Messi has the most number of goals in this season of La Liga and with this goal, his tally has reached 34 goals, 13 goals ahead of the second-positioned, Karim Benzema. Former India footballer Kannan passes away

Twitter image Kolkata: Former India footballer P. Kannan passed away at a city hospital here on Sunday following prolonged illness. He was 80 and is survived by his wife and two daughters. Kannan, who was a forward and made 14 appearances for India, suffered a stroke earlier in the month and was admitted to a hospital here. There was a campaign to raise funds for his treatment as his family was in financial trouble. "He passed away today at around 6:10 p.m. He was suffering for some time," a family source said. Born in Vandavasi in Tamil Nadu, Kannan played in Bengaluru, Kolkata and Chennai. He represented Universal RC for four years in the Chennai Football Association (CFA) senior division league. Kannan, who worked for Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) and Southern Railway, did not get any pension. His wife is a retired school teacher. FIFA rankings: India climbs two places

In the latest FIFA rankings released on Thursday, India climbed up two places to reach the 101st position. India have not been in action since the 2019 Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Asian Cup. The Indian team had dropped six spots in the February edition of the rankings after ending the year 2018 at the 97th rank. India faced an early exit from the Asian Cup as they suffered back-to-back defeats against the hosts UAE and Bahrain. The Blue Tigers lost 2-0 against UAE and they were defeated 1-0 against Bahrain. India had earlier recorded a 4-1 win against Thailand in their opening match of the tournament, which remains their biggest win in the competition's history. On the other hand, the Asian Cup champions Qatar continue being ranked at the 55th position and so do United Arab Emirates (UAE) at the 67tyh position and Bahrain at the 111th position.
